2025 Reacher Project

A local inventor approached Initech to refine an existing design that another engineering firm based in the US had created. The goal was to take to the product through a design for manufacture process, tooling phase, and into shipping the product to consumers. After one year, the firm had created several renders, one physical prototype as well as various 3D models. Upon deeper review, the prototype and models though pleasing to the eye, did not contain the features required to create functional tooling. Items such as draft angle, attaching grips and parting lines were not taken into consideration.

An extensive redesign of the injection molded parts was required for all of the components including the attachment mechanism that holds each of the multiple attachments in place. Working closely with the manufacturer, parts were defined through a design for manufacturing process. Key to the success of the overall process was listening to the voice of the customer while balancing out the constraints of the available manufacturing processes to create a highly functional product that will please the end user.
